What is Invent for the Planet?

Invent for the Planet (IFTP) is a 48-hour intensive design experience that engages students at different universities around the world on a single weekend to solve high-impact, global problems. Wichita State University is excited to be a local host for the competition!

IFTP will be held in multiple locations across the globe simultaneously. Each group will start at 4 p.m. local time on Friday, Feb. 18, 2022. New groups will join the race to innovation as time travels across the world. Student teams will work on provided design challenges in local teams and will be encouraged to connect with teams across the globe as they come online.

We invite you to be part of IFTP 2022 which will be held February 18-20, 2022 at Wichita State University! Join us for 48 hours to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing our planet.

How it works:

The Invent for the Planet weekend follows a 48-hour design challenge format, and participating individuals form teams based on similar interests in a need statement. The teams then research the topic and come up with a plan and build a simple prototype.

On the final day, each team puts together a video and presents its prototype to a panel of judges. Three teams from each local event are selected for first, second and third place prizes.

The first-place teams from each university will then have about a week to perfect their pitch before submitting a new video that will be judged remotely and narrowed down to a final five.

Those five teams will be invited to Texas A&M University to pitch a more complete idea against each other, in conjunction with a meet-and-greet conference, for a chance to be named the first-place winner overall!
