1. Come in with an open mind... listen to the needs before you come up with a solution!
  2. Pack plenty of snacks & a reusable water bottle. We provide meals, but the days are long!
  3. Have fun!

What’s a day look like for an IFTP Participant?

Friday:

Welcome! You’ll check in on Friday afternoon and participate in the welcome ceremony.

The Needs Statements are posted around the John Bardo Center (JBC) lobby, and you’ll have time to coalesce your team around one issue you’d like to tackle over the 48 hour challenge.

If you came as an individual, this is your time to mingle and meet other individuals who you could form a team with! If you showed up as part of a team, great! You can either continue on in your pre-formed team or, you can mix and mingle with other participants to see where you’d fit best. Take time to talk about your strengths as a teammate, what your passions are, and start brainstorming solutions.

After choosing a need statement to address, you’ll have time to find a conference room to settle into, brainstorm and work as a team to come up with a pitch to fulfill the first Progress Benchmark. Your pitch will include a basic summary of your solution, an initial prototype (think really basic... small scale!) and you’ll also provide a list of your needs as you progress through the weekend (a mentor for coding? a stack of 2x4s for prototyping? what will help you be successful?).

Once each team has provided their first Progress Benchmark, we’ll close for the night. You’ll be released to go get some sleep, or you can keep working throughout the evening in your hotel room!

Saturday:

Today is when most of the “meat and potatoes” of your project will be done.

We’ll be providing mentors to coach you through various aspects of your solution, GoCreate will be open and providing free memberships for you and your team to develop your prototype in the makerspace, and we’ll have training sessions for learning how to give a business pitch, and how to tell a compelling story during your 90-sec video.

Schedule your time accordingly, your team will have a lot of deliverables to present. Bring snacks and a hardworking attitude! You’ll also have Progress Benchmarks to share the forward momentum your team has been making, and to update us on what resources you need before the final presentation on Sunday.

Sunday:

It’s finals day!

You’ll have a little bit of time in the morning to put final touches on your prototype and presentation. By mid-morning, you’ll submit your presentation, upload your video, and prepare for the judges to arrive!

The competition will begin at 2pm, where each team will present the solution to their chosen need statement via their 90 second video and an accompanying 10 minute pitch. Every team will be give a copy of the judges rubric in advance, so you know how to structure your pitch.
